Bosque de Las Almas off leash

Zeph thought it would be so kind to offer to walk his parents dog after dinner. And it was, except he wasn't used to this, and at some point during the walk, the collar had gotten loose and the beagle just ZOOMED and now he was left with a useless leash and no dog.

Couldn't return dogless. You just didn't do that. Ugh.

"Chase! Get back here?" He called with a voice that clearly showed how out of his depth he was there.

Also, Chase. Dog earning his name right there. Should have taken treats with him.

The landscape changed drastically as she descended the trail. From skirting wildflowers and seeing vistas higher above, Domenica was now under a thick canopy of shaded green. The light was cool, and though it’d been a warm day, a cold sweat clung to her clothes and hair.

At some point, a dog appeared to her, walking over a bed of moss with his nose to it. Mimi had crossed paths with numerous dog owners that day, some off-lead like this, but they usually weren’t far behind. And the dog’s leash typically wasn’t… trailing behind it.

She looked around, but upon seeing no one, crouched and beckoned the pup over. It didn’t engage at first, but with time it came closer, all the while following its nose. Once near enough, Mimi patted its head and retrieved its leash without hurry.

Humming a thoughtful noise, she turned his name tag over. ”Tell me what now, Chase?” she pondered. There were phone numbers and microchips and all sorts of creative ways to find an owner, but Domenica wasn’t too concerned. How far could a beagle go from where it’d started? No offence. He was very cute, but they were not exactly known for being intrepid travellers.

Straightening to a stand, she continued down the trail with him, the pace slow and attentive for both their sake’s.

Okay, Zeph, think. What would you do if you were a dog? Probably stay near the most known human, ugh.

But what if no known human? Maybe get to the closest other one? Mmm.

He kept walking in the direction Chase had taken off toward, calling his name with increased confidence. Focusing on any and all emotion he could feel along the way. So far, only his own irritation and worry that he lost the animal.

It’d be a few minutes before Chase began pulling on the leash, and another half a minute until Domenica could hear the sound of a man’s voice calling his name. She opted to remain silent, until at last she saw a figure break through the trees.

”Hello,” she said as she approached, carried by Chase and his wagging tail.
