Elena had seen death a number of times, none of which she could confess to being mysterious. Often, the cause had been quite clear - old age, illness, and in particularly sad cases, poverty. There were other kinds of death, of course. Elena did not live her long life not having experienced some dreadful things, but that was not a story she ever wished to share in such company.
For all her praying, Elena could not shake the morbid curiosity that clung to her remaining humanity. "How often do you successfully solve each mystery?" She looked at the woman's honest face, intent to see how the answer lit up or dimmed the features.
