Ridgefield County Jail The Countdown

Fit

Zaharia had meant it on trying to work on things, so she was back to visit after taking care of the library and getting it all festive. She loved Halloween and would dress festive up until Christmas because she had little care.

She also had brought some pictures of a certain pitty that Sayed hadn't been able to see in a while.

Being led to that similar spot with the glass and phone, she sat down, pulling out the Polaroid photos and playing with them with her rather long nails. Fake press on's for the win, they made her feel wicked truthfully.

Sayed didn’t really know it was close to Halloween. If he did, he would’ve been more excited, knowing that his release date was very soon after.

Of course, an additional week waiting would probably feel agonizingly long; probably worse than the rest of the six months.

At any rate, he had a visitor that he was not expecting. All visits were mostly surprises, but he was even more so surprised to see Zaharia again so soon. He sat down at the spot he’d been directed to and he smiled across the glass at her as he picked up the phone.

Zara gave a small smile as he looked a bit more perked this time than the last time she saw him.

"Happy All Hallows Eve, Sayed, " she said as she pulled out the stack of photos she had snapped of their pooch but also a rather fun surprise she had been in the works waiting for.

Oh, well now there was no question what day it was. Sayed smiled even wider as he realized that he had just a couple of weeks left in his sentence.

"Oh, I didn’t know what day it was. Happy All Hallows Eve to you too."

It wasn’t hard to spot that she’d brought something as well. "What’s that?"

"I had a feeling...time must be weird in here, " she mused out before turning the photos around for him to see Chauncer.

"I know...it had been some time since you'd last seen him so I'd been taking some photos for you to see, " she told him as she'd use her fingers to hold each one up to the glass. Most of them were of him playing or making silly pitty faces but then there was a different Photo put into the mix.

Zara was doing her best to keep a straight face on that.

Time was weird. But at least it would be over soon now. He had hope again. He’d survived jail; so far anyway.

Zara turned the photos to him, letting him see what they were. He smiled as he instantly recognized Chaucer. He thought of the dog often, missing him as well. He wondered if Chaucer would even recognize him anymore.

And then there was a dog that was neither Chaucer nor the dog Zara turned into. "Who’s that?" he asked, already figuring that Zara had got another dog.

Zara moved the photo some, looking at the fluffy puppy for a moment and then at him.

"This is the puppy that will be arriving on the first...as much as I have endless energy for the sweet boy I think he needs a friend and this breed is pretty similar to a pebble and just as energetic...you'll get to meet her when you come see Chaucer, " Zaharia told him.

She was still working on a name; naming a pet was not exactly easy.

Sayed’s suspicions were correct- Zara was getting another dog. One that hadn’t arrived just yet but would be there soon. One he was already being invited to meet. Sayed smiled.

"Do you have any names picked out for him yet?" Maybe the pup had a name that the breeders or shelter had given him. Sayed himself wasn’t very good with names. "I’m no good with names. The shelter had named Chaucer. And I liked it a lot and stuck with it."

"The breeders named the litter after Dumplings from around the world...so currently this ones name is Momo- which I had to look up is a dumpling from Nepal," who knew but there were a lot of dumplings and a part of her was curious as to how they should taste.

She did not know if she'd attempt to eat one but she was curious nonetheless.

"I may keep it Momo...not wholly sure honestly, I haven't named a pup in a while, " Zara admitted with a chuckle.

The naming convention was funny, but Sayed found that he liked the name Momo. It was cute. A good dog name, if any.

He continued to smile. "Momo is a good name." Though he also understood why she would be more inclined to name the dog herself. "I’m sure whatever you choose will be good though."

That did earn a little smile from her; Momo. She might just keep that.

"It has been a while since I've named a pet...I do like Momo, its rather cute, " she said with a nod, "Think you're up for puppy energy with Chaucer energy? " Zara knew that the pitty would be excited to see him again; even if it had been a while.

Puppy energy. Sayed figured he would be, but who actually knew for sure? He hadn’t had Chaucer very long when he left.

But the question did give him some pause as he considered it. The thought of being back in Zara’s life, with Chaucer, with a puppy- he thought it would feel good but suddenly he was feeling something else?

Tired? No, he couldn’t feel tired. He tried to focus back on the question. "Yeah," he said absently. But as he looked back to Zara, he realized what had just transpired: his power had been zapped. Some of it.

Zara felt stronger than him rather than on the same level. He knew this had always been a possibility since arriving to the jail, but this felt so cruel. It was humiliating having it happen right in front of Zara. It was hateful that it came right at the end of his sentence.

His eyebrows furrowed and he knew he couldn’t continue this conversation as much as he wanted to. It had just became all too much.

"I’m so sorry Zara," he breathed out into the phone. "I need- I need to go. I’ll see you in a few weeks, yeah?"
