Yellow Pages Lost Time

Myla knew that Locke wouldn't mind her calling; they kept in contact well enough even if it wasn't constant but well, she needed him right now. After all that happened and all she was trying to mentally wrestle with, she was worried about being alone at all but yet didn't want to just show up at his door.

So, she called first.

Incoming call...

How late was it? Locke squinted at the phone screen and ended up hitting the green connect button before his eyes could find the time. Myla? It had been a short while since they last spoke, but it was usually over text.

Hello?
Locke

He asked the other side, confused.
#3
It was, early morning? Late morning? She had no idea just called once she got home and shut herself inside.

Hey Locke...did I wake you?
Myla

She rubbed her face sounding a bit stressed, trying to figure out if she'd pulled a jerk move calling early.
#4
Well yes. She woke him up, which was why his voice sounded a bit croaky.

No no.

He was immediately outed by a sudden intense yawn.

Uh, sorry. What's going on?
Locke
#5
Well, that was a lie. It almost dragged out a smile on her face.

Sorry for waking you

she really was

Uhm...fuck this sucks and isn't easy to say but I got attacked last night...out in Alder? First by some crazy psychic and then a vampire dead smell was there...just...yea...I just got home
Myla
Not much detail yet, sorry she was still having her own issues with what happened.
#6
The words were coming fast. He was far more awake now, curled sideways on his bed with the phone held against his head.

Whoa. A vampire and a psychic? Myla. Hey. Are you–Are you okay?

Myla was quiet; she'd not cried, not really felt all but shock and disgust until he asked that as she felt her legs get wobbly until she sat down on the floor.

No...I shifted...I got stressed and scared...then I woke up in the river...I don't know what happened to me while I was asleep,
Myla

Her voice cracked at that; she'd trained to be strong but to feel this vulnerable was not something she had mentally prepared for.
#8
Locke was shit at comforting people, but that was clearly what Myla needed. He felt awful for her.

Yeah. It's so scary but that's what life is like when you first turn. It's completely normal that you don't remember your shift. How are you now? Do you...do you need anything?

What she needed was to not feel crazy but she didn't know how to articulate that right now as she sat on the floor trying to just wrap her head around it
Locke, I've never woken up in a river before...or in water...most of the time I'm up in a tree or a cave that she finds...I don't...I don't know. Is this normal? To get fucked around with?
#10
He'd heard the saying 'blood runs cold' and this must be that feeling.

Myla, do you remember before you transformed? Did you happen to catch the eyes of the vampire?
#11
Myla thought long and hard on this one
I just heard her voice in my head...I freaked out, then I was shifting and I couldn't breathe...like at all, it was like my lungs stopped working as i shifted...we just wanted to get away
Her hand rubbed her face some at that painful memory at not being able to breathe.
#12
Yeah...sometimes vampires can do stuff. Like magic powers that mess with your mind. I'm so glad you're safe now. It's my fault. I don't think I told you where vampires have grouped up. M' sorry.
Locke
#13
So there was a group of them in Alder; the hell did that even mean?

So this... I go to Alder...I can expect to just get tormented?
Like was she ever able to go there safely?
#14
Locke needed to do a better job of explaining things.

No no. There is some risk, yes. Just like when I told you about Graupel Canyon? Emmett and I couldn't go for the longest time because the territory was held by another bear and it was dangerous. With vampires, it's less so. They can't come out in the day so that's fine. It's at night when you should always be on the lookout. Use your senses and stuff. Give them a wide berth if you come across one.

Myla rubbed the bridge of her nose, this still sucked; she felt strong and weak at the same time and then vampires were thrown into the mix.

Groups. Right, he'd talked to her about them and he was in one- as far as she remembered.
Yea I remember about Graupel, I haven't gone in there myself yet. Is it still dangerous up there?
Myla
So no night time jogs in Alder as much as she enjoyed the evening there.
#16
I think so. I stay clear so hard to say for sure. You can go in there once. Levka, the king of those parts will probably hunt you down and give you the same spiel. Join him or never return. It was too harsh a decision for my brother and me, so we steered clear. Though as far as I know, it's the only active bear group in the area.
