Born and raised on the Desjardins family estate in 1992 to Remy and Sarah Desjardins.
While the eldest, he was always happy to let his cousins take charge in shenanigans, often taking the fall for things that he didn’t do. Took his role as an older brother very seriously, though, and remains very protective of Liv.
As the eldest boy, he thought it would be his duty to take on the estate one day. But he always shied away from the “tough love” shown to him by his father and uncle, and while he was more than capable of hard labor, he couldn’t handle the stress of the responsibility.
He was very close to his mother, and would spend as much time with her in the comfort of the greenhouses where her flowers grew. She was diagnosed with breast cancer when he was fifteen, and passed away from it after a grueling two years. After her death, the flowers were the only thing Liam could ever grow.
While useful in some ways, this limitation on his power only served to put more strain upon his relationship with his father. It became clear in his late teens that Liam wouldn’t be the one to take over the estate one day.
He didn’t mind it, though, because his true passion was with the horses. After his mother passed away, he spent most of his time in the stables. It was here that his dream of joining the rodeo began.
So he hand picked a foal from a broodmare, a gangly golden filly that he named Cookie. And as she grew, he found that the connection he had with her was different than with the rest of the horses and livestock. He understood her, and she understood him. Training her to become a roping horse was a breeze, and it gave him the confidence to register and join a rodeo association.
It was a big leap, but he didn’t regret leaving the Desjardins estate to chase his dream.
He traveled far and wide with Cookie, finding camaraderie and connection he’d never quite experienced before. Finally, there was something he was good at.
He kept in touch, visited on off seasons, and invited his family to as many shows as he could. But his home was the rodeo.
A few years in, Liam really found his niche. While he still roped with Cookie, he found that bull riding was a source of adrenaline like no other. And he was good at it. Really, really good. It helped that he figured out how to turn that same magic he had between him and his horse onto other animals, though it wasn’t ever a conscious thing. He just knew how to control a bull, and got really good at holding on tight.
Things were shaping up well. He had made a career out of it, and was looking forward to the rest of the spring season.
That was when a bull called Wild Bill stepped on him. It could have been a lot worse, but it wasn’t good, either. In a matter of a second, his career was wiped clear out from under him.
A month’s stay in the hospital in Texas, then he and Cookie were on their way to an unplanned homecoming. It’s not all bad, what with a new niece and a sister in need of some company.
The only thing, though. None of the animals will let him near. Not even Cookie.
