cw: plague, colonialism, dissociation and depersonalization, suicide.
1891-1901:
- Not much is really known about Riddhi’s father during this time. It was said he was a European tourist who eloped with her mother, Aishwarya. He soon abandoned them after finding out Aishwarya was pregnant.
- Riddhi grew up impoverished in Jammu, where she lived with her mother until Aishwarya became ill as the plague swept through their village in 1901.
- Her mother died quickly, leaving a ten year old to fend for herself.
- It was around this time Riddhi learned she could turn invisible under duress. She used this skill to her advantage, especially in the marketplace where she would steal food she needed to survive.
- One night she lucked out by picking the pockets of a wealthy, ancient vampire named Gayatri. Gayatri was a proud woman who was both impressed by and took pity on Riddhi, inviting her back to her estate. She confessed she was a vampire and decided to take Riddhi on as her familiar and surrogate daughter. Riddhi, already intrigued with the promise of one day becoming a vampire herself, agreed.
- They travelled much of India together, with Riddhi acting as Gayatri’s child. She was shielded from the darker side of vampirism and instead began learning how to read and write, with Gayatri acting as her educator at night.
1902-1909:
- Towards the end of the Boer War in 1902, Riddhi and Gayatri travel to England, landing in London. Much of their time during these years is spent pursuing food for Gayatri, shelter from prying humans, accumulating more wealth through selling expensive art to willing buyers and adapting to living in a new country (for Riddhi) away from home.
- Riddhi continues to work on her skills of invisibility, and learning to control it. Unfortunately, the power comes with extreme dissociative fugue and depersonalization.
- Riddhi discovers she doesn’t have any interest in cisgender men, starts to fall for a girl she meets in London when she’s sixteen. Doesn’t act on these feelings, in fear of the repercussions of the time, though Gayatri is in full support of her soon-to-be fledgling’s queerness.
- After she turned eighteen, Gayatri introduced her to the deeply hidden underground queer scene, where she met other queer people like herself.
- It is during Riddhi’s time as a teenager that Gayatri also teaches her more about vampirism and gives more responsibility for Riddhi to take on.
1912-1914:
- Riddhi meets the woman of her dreams, Anna. Anna and Riddhi fall madly in love until Anna learns the dark underbelly of the life Riddhi lives with Gayatri. In fear and disgust that Riddhi helps lure victims for Gayatri to feed on (and cleans up the mess), Anna abandons her, leaving Riddhi heartbroken. Riddhi vows to not let herself get so attached again in the future, instead focusing on her one true goal: becoming a vampire.
1914-1918:
- The first world war begins. With uncertainty regarding their survival, Gayatri finally agrees to turn an eager and willing 23-year-old Riddhi in September 1914. It’s a process that involves Gayatri feeding Riddhi her blood, then murdering her by suffocation.
- Riddhi eagerly feeds on an intoxicated man found wandering home one night in London, with Gayatri’s help. The next new moon she is reborn a vampire.
- Unable to find passage out of England throughout the war, the two stay in town for longer than they anticipated, traveling to the country when possible to feed and work on strengthening Riddhi’s power.
- It is during this time that they meet other vampires and Gayatri insists they form a clutch, with her as leader. Riddhi doesn’t want to share her ducissa and mother figure with the rest of the vampires in the clutch and has a difficult time connecting with them. The main goal of the clutch is to strengthen their numbers by turning those brought back from war due to their health, along with impoverished women widowed by war and influenza.
1919-1930:
- Having spent too much time in England, the clutch relocates to America, seeking out New York City for themselves. A life of glamour and a seemingly endless supply of “food” awaits them. They spend much of their time partying, feasting, growing their numbers, much to Riddhi’s chagrin.
- Riddhi, despite not enjoying her time in the clutch, does get stronger (moving from new to common status).
- The roaring twenties are a time of prosperity for them up until the Great Depression hits.
- By early 1930, the clutch has lost most of its fortune and disbands due to disagreements over their collective future.
1930-1945:
- This leaves Gayatri soured and angry. She grows colder to Riddhi, who has been a loyal follower since day one and disappears one night before Riddhi wakes up.
- Riddhi, heartbroken yet again, is left all alone for the first time since she was ten. In a bloodlusting rage she kills a couple of men unlucky to find themselves in her path of destruction. She doesn’t know where to start when searching for her sire, so she doesn’t chase after her. Sticks around NYC for two additional years in the hopes that Gayatri will return before she finally packs up and leaves.
- In 1932, she travels to Canada, landing in Toronto where she spends much of her time in the shadows, hunting every night and bloodlusting every other night. She reverts back to her former vampiric strength (new), and has to deal with the setback on her own.
- It is during this time she spends much of her nights invisible, dealing with the mental health side effects that take her out of her body and emotions. She becomes cruel and often kills out of boredom.
- One night she kills an Italian man named Antonio DeLuca. Likes his last name enough, she adopts it as her own, separating her from Gayatri.
- It’s not until the start of WWII that this anger finally deflates a bit, transforming into a newfound search for power. She gains more strength as a vampire (back up to common), and seeks widowed women she can turn. Her first vampire turning goes horribly wrong with the woman, Edith, choosing to die over living the rest of eternity as a vampire. It will be another ten years before she tries again.
1950s-1970s:
- In 1955, Riddhi moves to Hollywood where she meets upcoming starlet, Mona Matthews. She first takes Mona on as her familiar until she decides to turn Mona and the two move in together.
- They spend much of the next two decades hunting together, travelling North and South America, feeding off the tourists they find along the way. Riddhi grows to love Mona as a friend until Mona decides to leave and set out on her own. In a rage, Riddhi ashes her with fire, nearly ashing herself in the process.
1970s-2000s:
- Out of necessity, Riddhi joins a new clutch back in London. She learns she can turn other people invisible, even if it requires great magical strength.
- She starts to accumulate her own wealth in objects and trinkets she collects (and steals) from the elite in British society, using her gifts to aid her in much of that process.
- Works on her skills as a fighter through much of this time, picking up fencing and brawling as hobbies.
- In 1990, she becomes the venator for the clutch and teaches other members how to fight.
- Throws herself in researching the supernatural around this time, wanting to learn more, not only about vampires but about weres and psychics.
- It is around this time she gains more strength in her magic and power (intermediate, baby!)
- In 2000, she learns of Gayatri’s demise through word of mouth in older vampire circles in England. Devastated and angry, she leaves England and the clutch behind her, moving to Chicago.
2000-2017:
- Spends time in the Windy City, manipulating many of the humans she meets through suggestion.
- Learns one evening she can turn into a bat with ridiculously long ears
- Uses this to her advantage to travel as she hates cars
- Life is relatively quiet during this time after she grieves the death of her sire.
2017:
- Moves to Denver, Colorado
- Adds more art to her collection
- It is here that she learns vampires in NYC have outed themselves but she opts to remain secretive about her existence from humans.
- Starts getting a little lonely again.
2019:
- Meets
Xena Abel, who she dates for six months. Eventually agrees to turn her, thinks she might even be in love.
- Has second thoughts, fears being abandoned, so she does the abandoning first.
- Leaves one evening and moves back to New York, where she remains until she learns of high vampiric activity taking place in a little place called Ridgefield.
December 2021:
- Moves to Hawknell, not realizing Xena is nearby. Maybe she’ll set her sights on joining another clutch. Learn a new skill. Kill some people? Who knows what the future has in store.
