Animal Appearance
Appearance
  • Perfectly above-average height -- good posture makes her seem a bit taller.
    • Chin up, shoulders back.
  • Not particularly happy looking most of the time. But her smile is small and gentle.
    • If she smiles with her teeth, it’s not a good sign.
  • Business casual; enjoys blazers, slacks, pointed heels. She is rather free with her body, however, and is occasionally shameless about showing a bit of bra like a fashion statement.
  • Dark lip colors and eyeliners. Short, curly blonde.
  • Always smells a bit like cinnamon.
Personality
  • Silent intensity - enjoys having command over a room when she walks in.
  • Averse to dabbling in small talk - get to the point, indulge her, entertain her.
  • Expects respect, but does not offer it freely in return.
  • Enjoys being uncomfortable as it gives her a problem to solve.
  • Prone to violence. She strongly believes that words simply don’t work with some people.
History
633 - 570 BCE
  • Born as Hesia on the island of Lesbos, to a poor fisherman and a homemaker.
  • Her father died when she was young, and through a stroke of luck, her and her mother were taken in as servants to a rich family, befriending the young daughter.
  • Hesia’s mother disappears in one night and is never seen again.
  • The family is exiled to Sicily and Hesia is left behind.
  • She hires a fisherman to take her to Sicily and wakes up on the shore, hungry and alone.
  • Is hired as a servant in Sicily and finds the fisherman.
  • He admits to turning her after he considered her an easy target on his boat. Takes responsibility for her and does his best to teach her.
  • Spends the next year finding her rhythm and hunting for Sappho.
  • Begins an affair with Sappho and discovers her power after killing a man in an alley.
  • Attempts to convince Sappho to join her, is called insane, and never speaks with Sappho again.
  • Learns of Sappho’s death and trauma-teleports herself out of Sicily.
569 - 390 BCE
  • Hesia settles in the southern Gauls, forcing her way into a powerful aristocratic family as one of their warriors.
  • Deals in the jewelry trade, protecting shipments from along the coast. Begins smuggling small amounts of the shipment.
  • When the family grows suspicious, Hesia teleports herself away to some new random place.
  • Eventually smuggles enough to claim her own land and assemble her own chiefdom.
  • Settles as the unseen chief; attempts to sew rumors that prevent her people from catching on. Manages to rule in this manner for quite some time, as those who grow suspicious are silenced.
  • In time, she is outed as an inhuman and is driven from her own settlement.
389 BCE - 1 CE
  • Travels further southeast, works as a for-hire trader, rarely working for the same people twice.
  • Continues to smuggle small amounts of shipments.
  • Settles in Lugudunum, trading among the merchants there.
  • Decides trading is boring, begins to work as a guard for a well-off merchant in the city.
  • Tired of running in fear, Hesia embraces her strength and manages to convince her boss that, while inhuman, she is infinitely more useful to him if allowed to let loose.
  • Is able to make an exceptional amount of money for her employer and eventually his progeny, as the years pass, as she is able to teleport small amounts of goods further distances, faster.
  • Develops a relationship with the great, great grandson of her original employer with the intention of wresting power from him.
  • Adopts a child to maintain the illusion of a family. Names her Nephele.
  • Her husband pressures her into changing him as he ages beyond her frozen appearance; Hesia does in a moment of affectionate weakness.
  • He proves himself to be incapable of being in control and changes their daughter.
  • Her husband disappears and she takes control of the company.
2 - 500 CE
  • Her and Nephele grow the business, moving from city to city within Lugdunesis.
  • Nothing particularly interesting happens.
  • As Roman rule begins to collapse, Hesia and Nephele are forced to move further north, in Cologne, outside of their “territory”.
  • Christianity makes people highly suspicious of them and they are unable to settle in any one place for more than a couple of decades.
  • They use the remainder of their wealth to purchase an old stronghold where they settle with a staff who are willing to be quiet and meals so long as they are paid.
  • Many of the staff are changed. Word travels that Hesia has created a stronghold for vampires and their numbers grow rapidly.
501 - 1000 CE
  • Again, they are left alone for quite some time before Viking raids throw the region into war.
  • Their stronghold is invaded and Nephele is burned alive, along with most of the clutch. The rest flee.
  • Hesia discovers a new ability and flies away.
1001 - 1789 CE
  • Many years of travel land her in the North American Arctic where she is able to live in a depressive peace, hunting among Inuit tribes, settling in as a part of their mythology.
1790 - 1871 CE
  • Travels south again, finding a home in a small French colony.
  • Changes her name, going by Melpomene Sylviane-Nephele, or Sylviane.
  • Spends much of her time alone, occasionally offering her protection and mercantile services to those willing to overlook her strangeness.
  • Begins to reeducate herself to better blend into the very different society.
1872 - 2021 CE
  • Travels across the US as it transforms from a cluster of eastern colonies into a nation.
  • Continues to study, learning various languages from where she had once lived.
  • Attempts to keep up with society; finds she has very little patience with modern people.
  • Began to adapt her life’s experiences into fictional novels; still had quite a bit of money left over from trading through the years.
  • Eventually settles in Colorado, deciding it is just the perfect amount of cold and the population of vampires has her intrigued.
Other
  • Sylviane, please.
  • Very little interest in modern technology - she owns a phone and a computer. Hates using them.
  • Publishes under a pseudonym: Sara Morris.
  • Fluent in Latin, French, Greek, and English.
