History
Born 1917 in Cologne, Germany. Parents did their best to raise him, but given the poor economy following WW1 they hardly had the means to raise a child. Klaus like many children would find himself shipped off to the nearest orphanage at the age of three, the names and faces of his parents would quickly fade to obscurity.
Klaus's parents were not the only ones struggling to support both themselves and their children, meaning that most orphanages were becoming fuller by the minute. Orphanages that had neither space, funds, or food to support the influx of children. The older the child, the less likely they were to be accepted into housing, and more likely to be dropped or abandoned.
This did not improve over the next couple of years and by the age of six, Klaus found himself on the harsh city streets. Life had not been easy before but with this new fate surrounding him, Klaus would have easily called it paradise.
He'd manage to survive through the help of older children and the pity of adults, malnourished as he was, Klaus could be considered one of the luckier children. All limbs in place, good sight, decent enough health for someone in his condition. Klaus certainly had a lot more going for him.
Good health also meant more interest for work, and by the age of ten, Klaus found himself working under the table jobs for adults that didn't want to get caught. Some jobs were more unsavory than others, but the pay was always the same. Next to nothing, but still, with nothing else to keep him afloat, Klaus would carry on.
As jobs increased, so did Klaus's hatred for the world. Why did he have to suffer so much for a decision that he'd had no part in making? Why did the world treat him so badly simply because he'd been offered the shorter end of the stick? These thoughts only grew and grew, even up to the age of sixteen when he got his first factory job.
The pay was small, the job grueling, but it was miles better than what he had been forced to do before. Legal and stable, you would never find Klaus complaining for the long hours or the dirty conditions.
Life took a steady pace from then forward, undereducated, underpaid, and underfed, Klaus had little hope in moving to anything greater, and for once there were people worse off than him. It wasn't until the age twenty-two that the world found itself in yet another war.
1939 was the year Germany made its attack against Poland, the first domino toppled for a whole line of events to come. Still considerably young, Klaus was a prime subject to be drafted in for the cause only a year later.
Position of Schütze, Klaus was hardly anyone important. A simple number among the many that they had gathered for their fight, meant for the front lines, and hardly a concern given for lives.
Smaller, and appearing much younger than those around his age, Klaus would be overlooked for quite some time. Sticking to the shadows as much he could, and only appearing when less risky orders were given. He'd manage to survive all the way up until the age of twenty-six.
1943 would be the bloodiest year of WW2, and Germany was hardly on the winning side. No longer caring about the size nor ages of their Schütze, Klaus would be forced into a high-risk mission that he hadn't asked for, patrolling through a town that he did not care for.
It was in this town that Klaus's platoon would find themselves under attack, shots would ring out from all sides, and many would die. Klaus, on the other hand, would run, and he'd run fast and he'd run hard because while life was rough, death wasn't anything better. It was during this escape attempt that Klaus would be found by fellow German soldiers, but after some quick questioning, it became clear they would be no saviors to him.
Shot in the chest for desertion, Klaus would be left to bleed out on the ruined blocks of the city. It would be here that he'd meet his second blessing in life. Fed the blood of a vampire, Klaus would find himself waking up just as strong, if not stronger than he had been before the firing.
The woman's name was Monika, and she was just as much a curse as she was a blessing. A woman who had lost her family like many others during the first war, Monika was looking to rebuild what she had lost. Klaus would be the first, but he would not be the last, playing the role of a son in this make-believe world.
Still, life was much better than death, and for that reason alone he was grateful to the deluded woman. Monika's methods for coping were strange, but hardly anything worse than what he had been dealing with before. If he played along with her games, then there'd hardly be a need to worry.
Playing the perfect son, Klaus got very good at acting. A skill that he would continue using for many years to come, and during the year 1953, he'd develop a power that followed along with it perfectly. Malleability.
Klaus would spend the remaining years with his sire, playing his role alongside his new 'sister' as he slowly learned and developed this newfound power. It wasn't until 1966 that he'd eventually make his exit, swift and in an entirely new disguise all the way until he crossed the border into France.
Left on his own once more, Klaus quickly realized that he was in need of income, and after spending many years free of the factory he was not looking to return. It was time to look for a new source of cash, and with his developing powers, this would not be entirely hard to do.
He'd spend a few months searching, but eventually he'd find a family with a very good fortune, and no kids to share it with. A large house, comfy beds, and enough money to last Klaus sometime. Killing them would have been simple, but keeping them alive would be more beneficial. Using his young appearance Klaus would suggest the man and woman into thinking that he was their beloved son. Again, the fake happy family life would ensue.
The problem with playing family with humans, however, was that they were bound to notice when you were not aging, and while they could be suggested. A whole town could not, and given Klaus was not looking to spend his years trapped inside, this simply would not do. In 1978, the 'mother' and 'father' would soon find themselves victim to a gruesome "robbery". Klaus, while terribly wounded, would be the only one to survive, and as the only child, would inherit all of the money.
Money restored, Klaus would leave France and head back to Germany, where he would live in content until the year 1983. Money wasn't looking bad, but it was best to start these things early. The gig would remain the same, only this time, Klaus would have a sister but she was much too young to know any different.
1994 hit, and once again, Klaus's family would meet their demise. This time shaking up the scene by suggesting a random man to set the large house ablaze after he'd made sure everyone within it was dead. Money restored bountifully, Klaus would make his way to America where he could experience a change of pace.
A new family wouldn't be found until 2005, this time as a means to blend in rather than the need for money, although he would settle for nothing other than the upper class. This time around, the family Klaus had found held a son, a son that would meet his demise early and quickly be replaced with Klaus. Suggestions in place to make night time activity normal and he was good to go.
2017, the family would meet its demise much earlier than two before it, when the announcement of vampires hit the news. Klaus in a panicked frenzy would bloodlust and slaughter them all as they sat around that TV screen. No inheritance gained here as Klaus was left with only the choice to flee, heading straight to New York where he knew others like him lived.
It would take him no time at all to find others like himself, joining their Clutch simply for the fact that he felt he had no choice. Humans were aware of them now, and that fear made him warier, less intent on creating his fake families to earn an income. He had plenty enough money as it was, and there was no rush for more.
Klaus would learn of vampires properly this time, learn what it meant to be apart of a Clutch, and would even develop a new power. This time the ability to change into an animal. A form that he would put into good use while hunting through the busy streets of New York.
It did not take long for Klaus to grow discontent with this life. The monotonous chore of staying under the radar and the weight of a dominus that he did not respect. He needed more and after living quietly for some years, Klaus realized that there was little to fear anymore. The knowledge of vampires had grown, but the resources to stop their advances had hardly developed. It had been ridiculous for him to fear the humans in the first place.
Leaving the Clutch in 2021, Klaus would make his way to Colorado, gaining a new family along the way. This time he'd do things differently, he would not live around this family, and he would not see them outside of the times that he had to. A boy sent off to a boarding school where education was a priority, he would have a means of income, but no threat of being discovered.(A genius plan that totally wasn't made out of fear for the humans!!)
Currently, Klaus has just moved into a flat located in Hawknell.
