First Psychic Ability: Planet Manipulation

  • Unlocked at Age 10 = 19 Years of XP
  • With well over 320,000 species of plants on the planet, Rory has more than likely only encountered a mere fraction of this in his lifetime; however, to his knowledge, he has yet to come across one that he couldn't coax on a cellular level. Are there those that take a bit more effort? Yes, there most certainly are! A blade of grass is going to be easier to encourage than a more complex plant that bears a fruit or vegetable. As for ancient oaks or sequoias - who seem set in their ways - they typically come around as well, but it often takes the most effort, as well as saps the most memories.
  • While direct contact with a plant is often preferred, so that Rory doesn't accidently overstimulate the wrong specimen or, worse still, needlessly overextend himself, he can connect with them via his voice, either in word or song. He generally sings or even just hums a melody when he's nurturing an entire garden, but, if there's a sickly stalk among the bunch, he will make the effort to give it his undivided and direct attention.
  • The price Rory pays for using this ability is the loss of his memories and, regretfully, not just temporarily, but forever. Is there a rhyme or reason to which memory he loses? Yes and no. Typically, if he's just looking to encourage a plant to grow taller or fuller, the memory usually ends up being about something inconsequential or vague, like eating breakfast or tripping over a throw rug; however, if he's looking to truly manipulate, say, a vine, so that it crawls across the ground and wraps itself around a person's ankle, tripping them once fully ensnared - not that Rory would ever do such a cruel thing! - he would more than likely lose something more meaningful, like a first kiss or the death of a beloved pet.

Metaphysical Ability: Sixth Sense

  • Unlocked at Age 25 = 4 Years of XP
  • While most psychics can see or feel an aura, Rory insists that he can smell them; however, what's more than likely happening is he's subconsciously seeing a color, just off the visual spectrum, that he directly associates with a scent, specifically that of a flower, fruit or vegetable. For supernatural beings, it's usually an exotic specimen that he's experienced, in person, only once or twice in his life.
  • Thankfully, the cost of using this ability is more mild than permanent memory loss. Sometimes Rory losses his sense of smell and sometimes it's heightened, to the point of it potentially making him sick to his stomach, depending on what scents are around him at the time.

Appearance

The Physical

  • Height, Weight & Body Type: Rory tends to appear bigger than he actually is since he presents his athletic form in a confident, chest-out, shoulders-straight, chin-high manner. Once a rugby player in school and a farmhand for a number of years, he's maintained his thickly muscled body by perpetually being in the great outdoors.
  • Skin Color & Texture: Born with lighter skin, Rory's current, far more tan coloring is certainly a product of him spending so much time outdoors. Does he always wear sunscreen? No. Is he someone who lotions up on a regular basis? Not really. So his skin is probably a bit more weathered than it should be, especially for someone in their late twenties, but not to the point of no return.
  • Hair Color & Style: His reddish-brown mop of curly, thick hair certainly has a mind of its own and Rory isn't afraid to let it fly whichever way it wants. He's also not against allowing his greys to grow in, especially in the front, where a distinguishing streak has set up shop. Not one to grow his hair too long, it does usually cover the back of his neck in the colder seasons. As for facial hair, Rory swings from one end of the spectrum to the other, going from clean-shaven to bearded in a matter of weeks; however, a slightly longer, five o'clock shadow is usually the norm for him.
  • Eye Color: Rory's eyes are blue, but they seem to take on a different shade depending on if he's outside, inside or wearing his favorite dress shirt. They can appear pale at times, especially when out in the direct sun, but also deep and much darker, when curling up with a good book before bed or, well, posing nude for a classroom full of college students. Naturally, like most other supernaturals who aren't hiding behind a shroud, his eyes do shift when he's using his abilities. So instead of blue, they become green. Not a vibrant, glowing green, but more of a natural, nature-based green, with hints of brown, which speaks directly to his ability to nurture plant life.
  • Voice: Not as deep as one would expect given his stocky build, Rory has maintained his Scottish accent; however, he has worked over the last few years on using less and less slang from his homeland, so as not to confuse the locals. That said, when he gets upset or even angry - which is rare - he does start to sound a lot like Groundskeeper Willie from The Simpsons.

The Material

  • Body Modifications: Not a huge fan of mods, Rory's also not against them, and he would seriously consider getting himself a tattoo or two, if he could just decide on where they would go and what they would be.
  • Wardrobe: More American Eagle than Armani, that's not to say that Rory doesn't like to flatter his fit form with high-end couture, it's just not always practical when digging around in the gardens at home or work. More inclined to purchase something for its sturdy functionality over its stylish form, the man still knows how to put a look together with all the trimmings. He's also been known to don any one of his kilts when you'd least expect it, just to be - quite literally - a bit cheeky when out and about, seeing that he does indeed wear it like a proper Scotsman should, sans undergarments.
  • Jewelry: His collection is small and purposeful, and it's mostly comprised of timepieces.
  • Scent: More natural and raw than manufactured, Rory doesn't really have a favorite cologne, but he does have dozens of scents he's willing to dabble in, depending on the day, his mood, and the occasion, and he's not against going floral, too! Take that toxic masculinity!

History

Childhood

  • 1991 : Rory Macrae is born in Glasgow, Scotland, to Graeme and Eppie Anderson. The two own and operate a successful, working farm in South Lanarkshire, which has been in the family for hundreds of years.
  • 1992 (1): Rory's brother Shaw is born.
  • 1994 (3): Rory's sister Lily is born.
  • 1996 (5): Wanting the best for their eldest son, Rory is sent away to live with his Aunt Ava, whereupon he starts his private education at Kelvinside Academy. Able to come home on the weekends and during breaks, he actually weathers this transition rather well.
  • 1997 (6): It's decided that Shaw - who is not as bright (or gifted) as his older brother - will attend a public school closer to the farm. This creates a minor rift between the two boys.
  • 1998 (7): Rory's sister Fiona is born.
  • 1999 (8): Lily comes to live with Rory at Aunt Ava's. She also attends Kelvinside.
  • 2000 (9/F): Rory's brother Brodie is born.
  • 2001 (10): As puberty kicks in, Rory starts to find himself increasingly aware of his attraction to boys. As a result of this rather emotional awakening, his ability to manipulate plants also blossoms. Already aware of his unique nature, his aunt - who is an interpretational psychic - encourages him to explore and develop his newfound abilities.
  • 2003 (12): Both Fiona and Brodie end up attending the same school as Shaw. Once again, a rift is formed among the siblings, but instead of it being directed solely at Rory, it is also aimed at Lily.

Adolescence

  • 2004 (13): Aware of their son's hidden talent, Graeme and Eppie start putting him to good use on the farm, which Rory is more than willing to participate in, since he's felt a little bit like an outsider while living with his aunt.
  • 2005 (14): Rory kisses a boy for the first time.
  • 2006 (15): Rory does a little bit more than just kiss a boy for the first time.
  • 2007 (16): Rugby becomes a new obsession, which Rory shares with his brother Brodie.
  • 2008 (17): Rory officially get his driver's license, even though he's been driving farm equipment since he was thirteen.
  • 2009 (18): Rory graduates from Kelvinside.
  • 2010 (19): He starts studying at his maternal grandfather's alma mater of Edinburgh.

Early Adulthood

  • 2011 (20): Rory's brother Shaw marries his childhood sweetheart, Rose. Rory plays best man at the ceremony, which is decorated with thousands of live, white roses. Regretfully, the psychic overextends himself and ends up losing many of his earliest childhood memories involving Brodie.
  • 2012 (21): Rory becomes a proud uncle to his brother Shaw's first son, Logan.
  • 2013 (22): Graduating from the University of Edinburgh, with a degree in Biological Science, Rory immediately starts work at the Dawyck Botanic Garden. He relocates to the village of Stobo, which is nearly thirty miles south of Edinburgh and twice as far away from Glasgow. Shaw's second son, Knox, is born at the end of the year.
  • 2014 (23/F): Rory's sister Lily marries an Italian, by the name of Antonio Alberti, who is twenty years her senior. She moves to Italy.
  • 2015 (24/F): Lily gives birth to twin girls, Anais and Madeleine. Post pregnancy, she unlocks her own psychic gift of shielding.
  • 2016 (25/F): Rory's metaphysical ability is triggered after losing his father, Graeme, in a horrible combine accident. With the onset of this sixth sense, Rory loses control of his psychic ability and suffers a major memory loss. Thankfully - depending on your point of view - many of the memories lost involve his late father, including his shocking demise. With their father's passing, the family farmland is evenly divided between the five siblings, leaving the main house and five acres in Eppie's name.
  • 2017 (26): Rory leaves his job at Dawyck and moves back home to help his brothers run the family business.
  • 2018 (27): Rory's sister Fiona marries Colin, a professional athlete from America. Content with how the farm is being run by Shaw - well, actually, his business-savvy wife, Rose - Rory decides to relocate with his sister, but instead of joining her and her husband in Denver, he moves an hour north to Hollowstone after securing a position with the Botanical Gardens in the neighboring city of Lauderhill. Both siblings sell their share of the farm to Shaw, walking away with a tidy sum once sold. Rory proceeds to use the money earned to build his dream home in the hills, with tons of room for company and ample grounds for gardening.
  • 2019 (28): Fiona gives birth to a boy and names him after his late grandfather. Brodie decides to join his siblings in America, so he moves to Denver as well.
  • 2020 (29): To get himself out of the house, Rory signs up for a night class at Alder Heights Community College. The next thing he knows, he's modeling - sometimes nude! - for a figure drawing class.
