Life
  • Born in 1909 in the port city of Valparaíso, Chile to a family of eight children.
  • With the opening of the Panama canal in 1915, Valparaíso lost most of its economic wealth and the city faced hardship.
  • At the age of eight, Elena and all the younger children were sent off to a convent as their parents could no longer afford to take care of them.
  • She lived there for over ten years and grew close to a number of the nuns and a few of the visiting priests.
  • At one point, she strongly considered taking the vow. However, in 1929 the Great Depression hits Chile and Elena moves back home to work and help her terribly impoverished family.
  • In 1933 Elena begins a relationship with the son of a family friend and in a whirlwind romance becomes engaged to be married and moves to Santiago for better financial prospects.
  • Her happiness is short-lived as a year later her fiance disappears during a work trip and Elena’s saving dry up as she works to locate him to no avail.
  • Elena returns back to the old convent in 1935 and takes a job working in their public offices.
  • She lives a relatively happy life through the next decade, although the radical party that takes power during this time leads to strains in her mission to help the area’s impoverished and hinders her ability to send enough money back home to her family.
  • In 1948 both her parents and older brother pass away due to sickness. Elena moves home once again.
  • Back a home, Elena takes charge of her remaining family members and through her tenacity is able to keep them afloat by having them rebuild their fishing business.
  • In 1952, Elena receives word that a nun she was very close to is dying and requires help during her last few months. Elena goes to provide care.
  • During her stay, a man appears one night in bad condition and begs to stay. Weary, but wanting to help, Elena sets him up in a side room.
  • Later that night she awakes to a strange noise and to her horror finds the man over her friend, biting into her flesh with a face covered in blood. She screams and alerts him to her presence. A chase ensures with Elena unable to escape.
  • She fights for her life, managing to injure her attacker, but eventually, he knocks her out cold.
  • Elena awakens to a new world.
After Death
  • The man that attacked her turns out to be a vampire that belongs to a nomadic clutch. He had been experiencing a case of withering and the call of blood was too strong to ignore. He ended up killing her friend and accidentally turned Elena’s during their fight. Weakened, Elena is unable to stop her new sire from taking her away to visit the clutch.
  • The clutch’s leader is enraged by the recklessness of Elena’s sire and after a tribunal with all the members, determines that her sire has been causing too many problems for the group and sentences him to death. Elena is shocked and horrified but also feels a sense of justice and can do nothing but watch as her sire is taken away.
  • Elena becomes a reluctant member of the clutch. Slowly learning from them and in time coming to view certain members as personal friends.
  • She struggled with her feelings of having to leave her family but understood her new lifestyle wasn't unsuitable to be around her living relatives.
  • She leans heavily on her faith for support as the clutch continues to travel, eventually leading them up through Mexico where they settle for some time.
  • Elena discovers her empathy power while taking a job at a consulate office. It strikes her quite suddenly that the head consul was on the verge of a breakdown although he remained poised and professional during the day.
  • By 1986, Elena has become confident in her new skin and spends her time on personal projects. She continues her work for charities and holds multiple positions including acting as a liaison for international relief groups.
  • In 1989 the clutch’s leader is caught up in a territory dispute with another, more established clutch and is killed. Concerned for their safety, the remaining members cross the border into the United States and try to remain together.
  • Elena discovers her animal form while in south Texas during an uneventful New Moon. She transforms into an Austral Parakeet which is native to her home country and the very bird that she once tried to capture and keep as a pet when she was a child. She uses this form mainly to observe and delights in speaking simple phrases to passing humans before flying off.
  • A power struggle among some of the older members causes the group to fracture and split across the country. For a time, Elena travels with a younger vampire, setting up a life in New Mexico and training to become a social worker.
  • Her last remaining clutch mate leaves to pursue other adventures and Elena throws herself into her work.
  • A new job sends her out to Ridgefield on assignment and thus she begins a new chapter in her life after death.
