First Ability Pyrokinesis
Second Ability Summoning
Power/Animal Description Metaphysics
Tom has never really grasped the ability to sense other supernaturals if he really puts his mind to it he can just about muster the feeling that he might possibly be in the presence of a supernatural. He can usually maintain this focus for five or ten minutes before he begins to feel sick. No doubt his weakness in this area stems from his lack of proper social integration.

First Power: Pyrokinesis
Like his brother his powers represent something of a duality, They are defined by their shared history after all. Whether the fire came from striving to be like his big brother and to gain comfort from that constant in their tragedy or whether it is a manifestation of his desire to purge unpleasant things from his memory is unclear. All he knows that of all his powers Pyrokinesis is the scariest and comes at the highest premium. Anything more intensive than lighting a fireplace brings him out in a rash, keep pushing and his skin eventually erupts in blisters.

Secound Power: Summoning
His summoning would be a manifestation of his clinginess, his unconscious desire to cling onto every scrap of even remotely good fortune. To pull fond memories back to him when the lights were off to lose himself in the past. To hold those objects that store those memories close and never let them go. The summoning comes cheaper even if it manifested later but trying to call forth too much or for too long and he begins to get nose bleeds and hazy vision. Once or twice he's pushed so long he lost his sight for a while.

Third Power: Illusion
Illusion was the last of his powers to materialize. It might be a manifestation of his artistic impulses given form or his body and mind trying to give tangible form to the shields he tries to put up to avoid attention. This power is the most well-behaved and predictable of his abilities however long and extended use can lead to him becoming distanced from reality, taking some time to remember what is real and what is not when the illusion is done.

Personality
Tommy has lived his life in the shadow and protection of others, never tasting life outside 'the birdcage' and that suits him fine.

Shy and reserved Tommy takes a long time to open up to people and he likes consistency, new places and new people send him hurtling back into his shell. He often feels very much an outsider or 'other' whether due to his upbringing, his abilities or his homosexuality. When he does open up though he is caring and empathetic. In this regard, he probably worries over his brother as much as Nate worries about him. He just can't show it in the same way, he can't be a big brother because he is not the big brother. He won't push Nate to start looking after himself and his image despite seeing how destructive it is because he knows how unpleasant pressure like that is. He doesn't let slip that he knows that Nate goes without to pay for his education ... Tom isn't stupid enough to think their parents would only leave money for him ... but he knows that Nate likes to look after him. There is comfort in control.

Instead, Tom pays his brother back by making the most of his sacrifices so that he can get somewhere and then he can bring his brother with him. He also tries to make the place that Nate squats in that bit more livable by painting the place for him, chalking fresh murals on the walls every few months and visiting as much as he can around his studies. He and his brother have been kept apart too much for him to want to fly the nest properly.

Though not materialistic Tom clings to things, items, pictures in a bid to maintain his memories and his sense of familiarity. If he had more money and had been amassing a collection for longer than six years he might have reached 'hoarder level' but at least for now though things seem normal. most things are hidden away in boxes. Just so long as people don't move anything or try to take something away which carries some meaning to him his compulsion doesn't show.
History
Tommy was ten when his parents died taken by a tragic house fire, an event Tommy could barely understand. He hardly remembers what life had been like with his parents in their house.

When his own house burned down while he watched bleary-eyed in his brother's arms his brother swore that he would keep him safe and Tom swore that he would let him. He fell asleep wrapped in smoke and bathed in hot orange light. He had not grasped just what that night meant until the next morning when the social workers had rolled in with their booklets and soft voices speaking childish words.

The fire that took his parents also took away most of the objects those memories attached to, keepsakes of childhood and most of the family photo's but a few existed in the cloud of the internet and they were a lifeline for remembering his old life and his parents. Clinging to those print outs at night probably sparked his obsession with keeping his grasp on important things. Nate made sure he knew about them though he told plenty of stories and reminded him of the times they had together. Tom couldn't bear to see images of the old house's exterior though or go anywhere near it. He burned the images of the house exterior pre and post-fire from his memory so that he might forget that smoke-filled night he'd watched his whole world turn to ash. Months of taking a new route to school finally purged the blackened shell from his head in all but his nightmares.

They were lucky, he was told, that he and his brother were able to be fostered together. He has some more potent memories of that home though it had not been there home for long. The foster parents were nice, they did there best but they were not his mummy and daddy. They were strangers in truth. His brother grew angrier and Tom just grew more reserved fear and worry eating him up inside. Fire on his mind and it seemed too on his brothers.

It happened in their shared room, facing each other from adjacent beds when they had made fire. Nathaniel first with a small spark lasting seconds on his palm, then Tom with a small fizzling fire that made him flinch back in fear. Still, under his brother's guidance and with more than a few words of support, he kept up the practice. Things were fine for weeks. The fires grew and with them grew Tom's confidence.

Then history repeated itself. Tommy didn't know how it had happened but before they knew it the curtains were aflame. Burned in a flash soon fire was spreading over the wallpaper and bedding and Tommy just sat there motionless. Eyes glossy as he was back in the smokey glow of the fire at their parent's house. Once again it was down to Nate to protect him getting him out onto the grass. Once again on the lawn of a burning house in little more than pyjamas, Tommy clung to his brother, pressed against him. Nate made him promise to say nothing of the fire, to claim he was asleep and let Nate handle everything.

So that is what Tommy did.

This time though they did not get to stay together. When the shouting stopped and the people of the street headed back to bed Tommy was put in one car, Nate was put in another. Only nates car was a police car. That was the last time Tommy saw his brother in person for a while. Once again he was left with very little to remind him of what he had lost. being only ten, not quite eleven nobody questioned the story that he was asleep and as he would therefore have nothing of use to offer he was spared going to his brothers trial.

After a few months in a children's home, Tommy was fostered again. His new parents were far stricter and more controlling than his previous parental figures, to them his name was Thomas, not tom and certainly not Tommy. Any hint of bad behaviour no matter how small was come down on, any indication of his brother hushed up and hidden away. There was marked desperation in their efforts to avoid Tom following his brother into what seemed 'rebellion fueled pyromania'. That is not to say that the foster parents were abusive. They were not, not intentionally anyway. They cared for him dearly in their way, as Tom grew though he realised that they exerted more control over him than most parents, Granting him little freedom to pick even what clothes were bought and when he was even slightly ill he was monitored around the clock and dragged to doctors and sometimes even the hospital before being confined to bed for days. He was allowed little unstructured time, living to a strict schedule which whilst helpful in ensuring he got the best grades was no good for maintaining a social life so he had few friends and none were close.

He was very much distant from the wider world, missing the force of the internet revolution completely in his early teens. He didn't even learn where his brother was until he was 13 when he found an old paper which had his brother on the front page. It was the first he'd seen of his brother in three years, he wasn't allowed any pictures or mementoes of him. When his foster father found it it was taken away and locked in a desk drawer.

That night he lay awake longing for that newspaper and the picture it provided. with tears in his eyes, he wished so hard that he could turn invisible, walk across the landing, pass through the locked study door, reach through the wood desk and grasp that paper again. Then he felt something in his hand. Opening his eyes he found the paper and though his body felt like jelly and his nose was bleeding he felt overjoyed. carefully and quietly he tore out the picture of his brother and stuffed it into a hiding spot down the side of his bed then with a deep sense 9of apprehension he carefully burned the rest of the paper. Purging from his room the details of his brother's sentence and their shared tragedies as he had purged away every other bad memory.

For many nights after that, he tried to do the same with his actual brother but try as he might all it got him was progressively iller. He grew so week he could hardly lift his head, his nose streamed with blood and eventually, his eyesight faded for a day or so. It was terrifying for him and for his foster parents. The doctors could not find the cause and suggested he be monitored. No longer able to try summoning his brother and mostly resolved to the disappointing realisation that he could not do so the symptoms faded and the matter was put down to hormones. His parents started him on an intensive regime of vitamins and herbal remedies, cod liver oil and the works.

Every night though Tommy continued to check on the picture, which he had worked hard to keep hidden, facing a few close calls. Until one night an hour into his bedtime, there was a knock on the window. He ignored it at first thinking it was probably a bird or a tree ... or a ghost. But it came again more urgent this time. so hesitantly he got up and crossed the room and peering through the curtains.

A face stared back and for a moment Tommy didn't recognise it but then it hit him. It was his big brother, he heaved the window open and pulled his brother in before wrapping himself around him and hugging him tightly. They spoke briefly in hushed frantic whispers but then Nate had to go. Tommy was giddy and it affected his sleep. There were more visits for a few nights more and as a result, Tommy practically bombed a pop quiz, the first near fail he'd had in years. His teachers mentioned that he seemed tired to the foster parents and they smelled something was off.

Clearly, they had stayed up later than normal and listened at his door, no doubt expecting to find him getting up to sneak extra tv or read comics. Instead, they found him letting his brother in through the window. The brother they wanted him to leave in the past. They were furious. They angrily forbade Tommy from seeing Nate and said that if they caught Nate on their street they would call the police and get him sent back to jail. They even put up cameras.

It didn't stop Nate though, not long had passed before Nate appeared on Tom's bedroom carpet, he'd found a way to do without the window and woke him up carefully gushing him. They spent the night talking until Tommy fell asleep on Nate's shoulder. Nate, it seemed fell asleep too because he was still there when the alarm clock rang and Nate had to hurriedly hide away in the closet. Over time thankfully nate got better at teleporting himself so there were no further close calls.

Days dragged into weeks and they fell into a routine but Tommy longed to be able to leave. To be with his brother again properly no matter what it took. Nate swore he would make it so but the weeks dragged into months. Tommy had begun to resign himself to the fact he would probably be stuck with only the short clandestine meetings with his brother when Nate announced he was ready. Ready to teleport Tommy away with him.

So Tommy left a note for his foster parents and the social worker to say he was running away. He did not say where or with who but he promised to write. then with a tiny bag of only the most important things, he and Nate left. Transported to Nates camp in the abandoned warehouse. Tommy felt sick after and his eyes were foggy but he was free. Pushing himself over the edge he summoned some bedding for himself from his foster home and then fell into unconsciousness. His sight eluded him for a week that time but having spoken with Nate over those months he better understood the reason and with his brother there, was not so scared.

Life with his brother was hard. They went without a lot. No more school, no more hot water on tap, limited electricity. but he'd have suffered all that and more to have his brother back in his life and to be free again to do as he liked. Slowly his brother and he grew used to the change. Nate tossed away all the pills and pellets they'd been giving to him calling it junk and when he could he brought Tommy book and tutored him. It was inevitable that he would fall behind but he was not as far behind as he could have been .

By some miracle or stroke of luck, Tommy was never found and brought back but as promised he wrote once a month to his foster parents, his notes always appearing on the dining table though the cameras never caught him. When he turned 18 he sent them a photograph, proof that he was alive and told them that that was the last they would hear from him because he was making a life for himself now that he was old enough to do so.

On his 18th birthday, Nate had produced a check for him to pay for an accelerated GED at the community college, money coming from an inheritance. Tommy was sceptical as he had never been told of any money and besides how had Nate got hold of his share in time, Nate was never his legal guardian. Still, it was only a few hundred dollars so he said nothing but thank you. Nate probably got the full lot when he was 18 and had just chosen to use some on Tommy.

He returned to education like a duck to water, getting his GED with ease. Tommy thought that would be the end of education for him. He'd need to find a job to help Nate out but Nate sat him down around application time and asked if he wanted to go to college. Tommy said he did but he'd wait and save. Their 'inheritance' came back again though, enough money to pay for Tommy to go to the local college in Alder heights and stay in a dorm close by. Tommy was almost certain that this was far too much money to have come from their parents, he was about to refuse it but with the words on his tongue, something in Nate's eyes told him to let Nate pay for him to attend art school.

So he did, which seemed to make Nate very happy. Even if he remained stuck living in a disused warehouse.

Tommy is now enrolled in art school and doing his best to make friends like his brother tells him, whilst he grabbles with the newfound freedom and independence he has. He has also decided to find a part-time job without telling his brother so that he can help out a bit.
Other
Tommy lives in a small dorm around the corner from Elysian and sells art (mostly on painted on pebbles or drawn on napkins) on Etsy, though if someone wants to pay him to do so -and provide the canvas- he has put up a few notices saying he takes commissions for proper paintings.
