History

Maxine was raised in western Kansas, the fourth child and only daughter of an oddly-paired couple that never argued in the home
She spent much of her teenage years penning out what her life would look like, and was the first in her year to marry. Her Catholic mother had never been happier
He had larger than life dreams. She didn’t know what that felt like, so she made them up for herself
The honeymoon abroad led to the moving away. It was nice for a while; before the homesickness and isolation wracked her
They divorced after a few short years, and Maxine went back with nothing more than a suitcase and a tarnished perspective of her own self-worth
Shifters weren’t supposed to exist then. Not in a small town in Kansas, where everyone knew everyone’s business. And for the most part they didn’t, except for the curious traveller passing through. It was one of these that took her out, only to be gone the next morning
