Cheyenne Point • Sunset Point Pride

Cheyenne Point is a quaint, charming part of town that generates most of its revenue from tourism, but is also popular with the locals. The area is overflowing with shopping strips, clubs, and eateries, and over the last decade, countless hotels have cropped up along the highways and near the most popular retail centers. With relatively low crime rates and regular deer sightings, this upper middle class area is considered peaceful… most of the time.

Cassidy’s

An Irish pub with a rustic modern twist, Cassidy’s is known better for its knockout car bombs than its exposed brick and beam aesthetic. If you’re here for the Irish atmosphere, Cassidy’s does not disappoint - they go so far as to have a local Celtic punk band on stage every Thursday night, and Saint Patrick’s Day is a pretty big deal. Beyond that, the building’s architecture is rustically clean and lovely - even the wood on the outdoor patio has an artful shine to it.

Chupacabras

Once an industrial building, Chupacabras has been recently retrofitted to serve as a bar and nightclub. Week nights host low-key events from slam poetry to karaoke, but on weekends, Chupacabras transforms into a lively nightclub featuring local bands and DJs.

Davis Zoo

Don’t let the name fool you - this place isn’t just a zoo. It’s also an aquarium! This establishment, named to honor a late local conservation enthusiast, provides safe and enriching environments for hundreds of species, and strives to bring education, awareness, and entertainment to every visitor. Clean, modern amenities such as restrooms and concessions stands can be found in almost every nook and cranny of the park - there are even a few small educational film theaters for those who aren’t into the live experience.

The Drunk Poet

Locally owned and operated, The Drunk Poet is a two-story bookstore that doubles as a fine beverage stop. Downstairs, patrons will find a famous poets themed bar that serves coffee and tea, and in the evenings, alcohol. The second story is dominated by rows and rows of shelves, sectioned into genres with books sorted in alphabetical order by author surname. Among these bookshelves are chairs, couches, and tables, where customers can sit and read, or chit chat and play games provided by the establishment.

Modoc Gym

Named to honor the beauty and diversity of the Modoc National Forest, this gym proudly caters to every kind of gym-goer, from New Years resolutioners and geriatric health nuts to bodybuilders and track elitists. Modoc’s basement floor is home to a full-length indoor pool and a quarter mile track, while the first floor boasts a multitude of exercise machines, a free weights area, and locker rooms complete with showers. Upstairs, members have access to a variety of scheduled classes, from spinning to yoga.

Papa’s Pops

A little hole in the wall family business that prides itself for the authentic sodas that they sell. The outside of the shop appears just as any of the surrounding stores, but upon entering the shop you will feel as if you were thrown straight into the 1940s. Candy shelves line the walls, with high sitting stools sitting up against a bar. Music of the time can be heard over the speakers during all business hours, and the staff can be found wearing striped aprons and sailor style hats. Enjoy the many craft sodas, or even ice cream made fresh daily, or a heart float with the soda of your choice.

Summit Theater

Owners: Sokol Petruška & Hei Ryung Hwan
Amidst the modern hustle and bustle of Cheyenne Point sits Summit Theater, a theater that is over one hundred years old and has been painstakingly maintained. The seating area is a vast spread of red folding chairs on the main floor, with more of the same on the balconies above. The stage boasts solid wood floors and a majestic crimson curtain, with gold and white crown molding that works itself into the meticulous patterns on vaulted ceilings. Behind the scenes, a rehearsal room has been fashioned into a space that is meant for pride members and their permitted guests only: a modernized lounge area, complete with fashionable, comfortable seating, and a kitchen!
