Dice & Tabletop
Here on Passing Strange, we use virtual dice (1d50) to determine the failure or success of combat strikes and vampire suggestions! It keeps things fair, but mostly, it makes things pretty interesting and scream-worthy.

Okay, do I have to use them?

Using the dice is not always mandatory, but sometimes it is!
  • When your vampire character is making a suggestion on another player character, you must use the dice to determine whether or not it’s a success.
  • When you have two characters who are in combat, and the players have not agreed upon an outcome of the fight, you must use the dice to determine whether your attacks hit or miss.
  • When you have two characters who are fighting over a leadership rank, you must use the dice to determine whether your attacks hit or miss.
  • When your new vampire or were is in a stressful, intense, or sexual situation.
Otherwise, you’re free to not use them!

Cool, how do I use them?

Well, glad you asked! The forum dice for combat and suggestion are only usable in the tabletop forum. In this forum, you will create a new thread just for you and your thread partner to use for rolling! Keep in mind, these posts are not editable, but a staffer can help fix any mistakes if needed.

When creating a thread in the tabletop forum, you’ll notice some dropdown selections. The first dropdown represents your character and their level, and the second dropdown represents their opponent’s level. The “bonus?” square should be selected if your character holds the role of soldier or venator for combat or if your character holds the role of counsel for suggestion!

Once you have these selected, click the dice button to the right of the second dropdown, and a manufactured roll code with your proper hit and miss odds will pop up in the post box! It’s important that you have your character’s and their opponent’s level/species properly selected, as that is what determines the odds of success and failure.

Note that you only see the formula this way, and you won’t get to see what number you’ve rolled until you publish the post. The suspense!

Important exception: Rolls using guns have different maximum hit odds than other types of rolls! Untrained characters (AKA ones without skilled dice rolls explained in the section below) cannot have higher odds than 1-25 when using guns.

Characters with skilled dice odds granted by staff to include gun use (ask staff if your character qualifies!) can have a maximum of 1-35 odds when attacking with a firearm.

Test your dice odds:

Combat
vs Hit: 1-25 Miss: 26-50
Suggestion
vs Success: 1-25 Failure: 26-50

What are skilled rolls?

Skilled rolls are granted to characters who have a history or occupation that would allow them to be more capable in physical combat! Police officers, security guards, and military members may qualify for these rolls. Reach out to a staff member if you'd like to request skilled rolls.

What about shift or bloodlust rolls?

These rolls are handled by rolling a d100 (/roll 1d100) in Discord! We ask that players announce before rolling whether shifting or bloodlust occurs on the lower or higher end of the spectrum to avoid confusion!. These roll results don’t need to be included in your thread and aren’t mandatory in every situation, but staff may reach out to tap individuals who have their characters always skirt rolling in stressful situations.
